Matt Gerstacker, PhD., LPCC, is a licensed professional clinical counselor with nearly 15 years of experience in the mental health counseling field.
Throughout this time he has focused his efforts on supporting and serving people via a unique and integrated approach that combines the person-
centered philosophies of unconditional regard, genuineness, and compassion, with psychoanalytic, existential, feminist, and rational motive behavioral theories. Unifying these tenets with an open, non-
judgmental space, clients, with Matt’s support, engage in compassionate challenging and empathetic explorations of lived experiences.
During his career Matt has worked with a myriad of disorders and conditions including personality disorders, mood disorders, and psycho-social development and identity conflicts. Other areas of individual and couples counseling include relationships and personal conflicts, academic stress and grief as well as the coming out process, and self-acceptance. Additional areas of experience include academic-focused counseling, academic major and career selection, as well as, chemical/alcohol dependence, Autism Spectrum, and stress-related issues such as suicidal ideations, self-injury, survivors of trauma, and veterans of military service.
Each of these experiences was developed while supporting clients at a community agency in inner-city Chicago, a college counseling center, and with student-athletes. Additionally, Matt has vast experience teaching counseling at the college level, supervising graduate-level counselors-in- training and presenting at the local, state, national, and international levels on a myriad of counseling-related topics.
